Choosing Your Bait

As temperatures continue to climb, aluminum boat enthusiasts are itching to get their boats back on the water. Summer is a time for relaxing and enjoying some real fun in the sun. For many boaters, this means it is time to get the fishing gear ready. Whether you are new to fishing, or you’re a dedicated fan, you’ll have important decisions to make when it comes to the perfect bait for your next fishing trip.

Live Bait vs. Artificial

The first decision you have to make is choosing whether to use live bait or bait that is artificial but mimics the real thing. When it comes to bait, the different options can feel overwhelming. A large factor is your personal preference. Some fishers like all the bells and whistles that can come with artificial bait, while others prefer to keep it simple. Regardless of what bait you choose, you can have a great fishing experience.

Live Bait

You’ll want to consider what types of fish you are looking to catch when it comes to selecting live bait. Some of the best freshwater bait include worms, minnows, leeches, and crayfish. If you are saltwater fishing, you’ll want to consider using seam worms, shrimp, squid strips, and cut-up pieces of fish. Make sure that you are following any specific fishing regulations in the area when it comes to selecting the best bait for your next trip.

Artificial Bait

Artificial bait includes jigs, spinners, flyers, and poppers that come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. These artificial lures are created to mimic the look of their natural counterparts and can attract fish the same way as natural bait. The cost of artificial bait can vary, and you’ll want to be sure to follow the instructions to ensure you are using your artificial bait as effectively as possible.
